Canoe or Kayak Training

British Canoe Union 1 Star

We have various training courses starting at the beginner, who is wanting to spend a day being coached on the basic of paddle sport, either in a canoe or kayak. during the day we will look at moving the craft forwards, backwards, sidewards, turning, trim and self rescue. This forms the basics of the BCU /UKCC 1 star award. 

(this will be awarded if the standard is reached)

British Canoe Union 2 Star Training

The 2 star is an  improvement award that helps paddlers develop fundimental paddlesport skills on flat water. The emphasis is on gaining a breadth of experience, creating the desired movement of the craft and developing an understanding into how the boat, paddle and water interact. The award is obtained by taking the assessment in both canoe and Kayak. The amount of training will depend on each individual candidate The award requires river trips in 2 different venues.

Foundation Safety and Rescue Training

The course aims to provide the student with the key safety and rescue skills required to operate 
safely in a sheltered water environment and to be able to deal with common emergencies.These skills 
will then form the basis of all safety and rescue training throughout the BCU Scheme.

Recuirements, The candidate must be of a 2 star standard, Min Age 14. 

We can run a FSRT course if you have a minimum of 4 candidates

1 Day Canoe Experience (Flat Water)

Enjoy a gentle paddle on some of Yorkshires beautiful rivers, This is a unique oppertunaty to explore the rivers from a differnt prospective. Suitable for all abilities, as full guidence will be given and all equipment supplied.

The day will start at 10am with a breifing and introduction to paddling your canoe, then a gentle paddle, keeping an eye out for the varied wild life, (Dippers, Kingfishers, Herons,) feel your skills improving as your canoe glides gentally along. You will need a packed lunch to take with you. All safety equipment will be supplied.

3 Day Guided Canoe Expedition Loch Ken 

Enjoy a 3 Day self supported wild camping trip and enjoy some of Scotlands stunning senery. (Canoe and safety equipment is provided)

All food and camping equipment can be supplied, No experience is required, however take advantage of a free 3 hour canoe session before.
